The Story of General Phillip Henry Sheridan
Philip Henry Sheridan was noted for his remarkable advances in the U.S. Army, serving as an officer and rising quickly to Major General. His was closely associated with Lt. Gen. Ulysses S. Grant, who transferred General Sheridan from command of an infantry division in the Western Theater to lead the Cavalry Corps of the Army of the Potomac. His extraordinary talent in militia affairs was best shown in his defeat of the Confederate forces in the Shenandoah Valley and his force in Robert E. Lee’s surrender. After only 57 years of life, General Philip Henry Sheridan passed away in his Massachusetts vacation home.
